Choosing the Children and Families major leads to a Bachelor of Science degree. This program equips you with specialized knowledge and hands-on experience working with children from infancy to five years old. You'll gain insights into early childhood development, learn to design age-appropriate educational activities, and discover how to build meaningful connections with both children and their families to effectively support their growth. The curriculum covers topics including child development through age eight, child-focused teaching methods, creating curricula for infants and toddlers, fostering inclusive classrooms, and developing advocacy and leadership skills in Early Childhood Education. The program includes two practicum placements at the EMU Children's Institute followed by a culminating internship. Graduates qualify for lead teaching positions in Great Start Readiness Programs, Head Start, or other public/private early childhood settings. Career opportunities also include program administration roles or positions in child advocacy organizations. You may also oversee staff members who hold associate degrees in similar facilities.
