This dual-degree program equips students for professional roles across public accounting, corporate sectors, and government/nonprofit organizations. All business undergraduates at Eastern Michigan University complete a foundational Business Core covering essential areas including statistics, accounting and finance fundamentals, information systems, business law, management principles, marketing strategies, operations management, and corporate policy. Accounting students pursue specialized coursework in financial reporting, cost accounting, taxation, accounting systems, government accounting standards, and audit procedures. These classes develop competencies in gathering, evaluating, and communicating financial data to support strategic decision-making by organizational leaders and external stakeholders. The Accounting Major opens doors to varied career paths in commercial enterprises, nonprofit institutions, and municipal/federal government bodies. Graduates typically begin as Staff Accountants in public accounting firms, with potential advancement to Partner roles. Alternative career trajectories include Accounting Supervisor, Internal/External Audit Specialist, Tax Consultant and Manager, and Financial Systems Analyst.
