The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program's Teacher Education pathway is tailored for individuals seeking initial teaching certification who hold a bachelor's degree outside the education field. The TEML Middle Grades (6-8) track equips future educators to instruct in sixth through eighth grade classrooms, specializing in two of four subject areas with mathematics or science as one required concentration.
When accepted into the MAT program, academic records will be reviewed to identify which undergraduate courses fulfill licensure prerequisites and whether supplementary coursework is necessary during TEML studies. Applicants without an appropriate undergraduate major in a certification field may need to complete additional undergraduate classes to satisfy state-mandated licensure standards.
Prospective students looking to transfer relevant graduate credits must adhere to graduate school policies. Note that graduate credits earned over five years prior will not be accepted. All candidates must successfully complete mandatory licensure examinations prior to beginning their student teaching experience.
