At its core, Chemistry is the study of substances and their properties. Everything we can perceive with our senses - what we touch, taste, smell, see, or feel - consists of chemical compounds. Chemists are professionals who convert ordinary materials into remarkable innovations. While some researchers develop cancer treatments, others track atmospheric ozone levels that shield us from solar radiation. Additional specialists create advanced insulation materials for homes or pioneer fabrics for contemporary fashion designs. Chemistry offers diverse career paths across industrial, academic, governmental, and healthcare sectors. The Chemical Physics Concentration, developed in partnership with the Physics and Astronomy Department, emphasizes rigorous training in chemistry's physical and mathematical foundations. This program prepares students for professional opportunities in computational chemistry, materials science, and various nanotechnology applications. The American Chemical Society (ACS) certifies this concentration, meaning its curriculum may evolve based on ACS recommendations.
