Duquesne's Center for Global Health Ethics offers distinctive academic and professional training initiatives in healthcare ethics, including four doctoral degree options. These programs—Ph.D. and DHCE tracks in both healthcare ethics and Catholic healthcare ethics—equip students for careers in academia, healthcare, and related interdisciplinary fields. The curriculum emphasizes critical healthcare ethics issues while examining healthcare as a unifying force between communities and ecosystems. Our doctoral programs foster scholarly rigor, ethical decision-making, and global social responsibility. Beyond conventional healthcare ethics studies, students explore international health ethics, gain cross-cultural and interfaith perspectives, and examine the relationships between health systems, environmental factors, social structures, and economic systems. These distinctive programs provide both intellectual distinction and professional advantage, enabling graduates to contribute meaningfully to worldwide healthcare ethics discussions while advancing their careers. Graduates pursue diverse paths including clinical ethics consultation, NGO or government service, and academic research—all with the capacity to create global change. With adaptable course scheduling and distance learning options, our programs prepare scholars for impactful careers across academic, clinical, and interdisciplinary professional landscapes.
