The Dual Certification Program for Future Educators enables undergraduate students in Pennsylvania to obtain credentials in both general and special education. This program equips undergraduates pursuing certification (preK-4, middle grades, or secondary) to address varied learning requirements across educational environments, including working with students who have disabilities, behavioral challenges, and social-emotional needs. Our undergraduate dual certification curriculum emphasizes hands-on application, bridging theoretical knowledge from Duquesne University to practical classroom implementation. Throughout the program, you'll complete specialized coursework in both special education and your content area, readying you for diverse teaching environments - from general classrooms to inclusion models and specialized settings. The culminating student teaching experience prepares you to instruct in both inclusive and special education contexts. Upon completion, graduates qualify for Pennsylvania certification in their chosen grade band (preK-4, middle level, or secondary) alongside K-12 special education certification.
