The Department of History offers hands-on learning through co-op positions in archives, museums, and historical sites, along with opportunities to perform and share original research and visit important historical locations. The program excels in the History of Science, Technology, and the Environment (STE) as well as Global History, with course offerings that highlight these specialties.
Their STE-focused courses align with Drexel's emphasis on applied science and technology while embracing the dynamic interdisciplinary shifts in historical studies. Global History courses explore transnational themes like the Worldwide Flow of People, Ideas, and Goods, Conflicts Over Energy and Security, and Environmental Challenges and Climate Shifts. Learners can merge scientific understanding with global awareness and the core abilities of a liberal arts education—strong writing and speaking skills, research proficiency, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and the capacity to formulate and address significant questions.
History students can also enroll in travel-based courses that enhance learning through direct experience. These programs include domestic or international trips lasting 1-2 weeks after coursework concludes, enabling students to expand their research and analysis beyond traditional classroom settings.
