The Department of History offers hands-on learning through co-op positions in archives, museums, and historical sites, along with opportunities to perform and showcase original research and visit important historical locations. Specializing in the History of Science, Technology, and the Environment (STE) as well as Global History, the department's curriculum highlights these focus areas.
Their STE history courses align with Drexel's emphasis on applied science and technology research, mirroring the dynamic interdisciplinary shifts in historical studies. Global History classes explore transnational themes like the Worldwide Flow of People, Ideas, and Goods, Conflicts Over Energy and Security, and Environmental Challenges and Climate Shifts. Learners can merge scientific understanding with global awareness and cultural proficiency while developing key liberal arts skills—strong writing and speaking abilities, research expertise, critical thinking for complex issues, and the capacity to pose and address significant inquiries.
History students can also enroll in travel-based courses that enhance learning through direct experience. These programs include domestic or international trips lasting 1-2 weeks after coursework concludes, enabling participants to expand their investigations beyond traditional academic settings.
