Drew University's low-residency Medical & Health Humanities program aims to humanize healthcare by promoting ethical practices and institutions. Established nearly thirty years ago, our certificate, master's, and doctoral programs were pioneering initiatives that remain at the forefront of innovation, serving diverse care environments locally, nationally, and globally. These programs address the increasing demand for specialized education in health humanities, care ethics, health policy, contemplative practices, and narrative medicine. With its strong interdisciplinary approach, the program examines how humans exist within intricate webs of ethical, environmental, and sociopolitical systems that influence health outcomes.
By blending scholarly research with practical application, the curriculum equips graduates for various roles across healthcare systems and community organizations. Alumni pursue careers as clinical ethicists, public health advisors, policy developers, humanities researchers, healthcare administrators, wellness program directors, or educators in medical and social service fields.
