The Dance program serves as a cornerstone of the theatre major while also flourishing as an independent minor.
Movement arts, particularly choreography, sharpen students' physical awareness and comprehension of spatial dynamics crucial for design, directing, and performance. Exploring diverse movement disciplines enriches intellectual and emotional investigations into themes, character development, and interpersonal connections.
Our program cultivates students' capacity to identify the numerous cultural forces that mold contemporary dance. These emerging artists evolve into insightful critics and creators capable of blending these concepts into compelling dance productions. We actively promote cross-disciplinary partnerships, welcoming students from Neuroscience to Economics to Women's and Gender Studies to engage within a liberal arts framework. Such collaborations equip participants with tools to thoughtfully evaluate and contextualize dance within broader cultural and social landscapes.
The Dance Minor leverages the liberal arts experience by providing interdisciplinary creative projects on campus, along with off-stage performance opportunities and community involvement.
