French serves as a primary or secondary language in over forty nations and is used by 125 million people globally. Gaining fluency in French enhances students' ability to communicate in non-English speaking environments. Indeed, proficiency in this language has grown more advantageous for careers in international law, finance, trade, banking, and communications, as well as for advanced studies in humanities and social sciences.

Drew's French department aims to accommodate students at all skill levels in French language acquisition. Our language courses, taught exclusively in French, employ diverse multimedia resources to encourage active student engagement. For those unfamiliar with French but interested in French studies, we provide several courses taught in English. Through coursework, extracurriculars, and study abroad programs, students not only improve language skills but also connect French studies with their other academic pursuits. After completing our language sequence, students can explore globally-focused courses that prepare them for literary and cultural studies or deepen their understanding of visual and performing arts, depending on their academic interests.

Our French program combines the examination of literature, cultures, and societies from modern France, Francophone Africa, and the Caribbean with cutting-edge teaching methods that leverage current technologies and multimedia tools. All instructors are either native speakers or have substantial experience living and studying in French-speaking regions.
