DePaul's MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing equips you to craft a novel, memoir, poetry collection, or short stories during your time at the university. You'll receive cross-genre guidance from acclaimed authors and poets. The program offers specialized courses including Copyediting, Book Publicity, Book Design, Teaching Creative Writing, and Teaching English, opening doors to careers in either publishing or education. This MFA program concludes with a mandatory thesis project meeting professional publishing standards. Qualification Requirements

For both the MFA and MA, a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution is required. For admission, a student should have:

A strong record of previous academic achievement.
Relevant course work in creative writing or experience such as publishing original work and/or participating in a writers group that has resulted in a body of creative writing. Students apply to both the MA and the MFA simultaneously. MA students may apply to the MFA after two quarters of graduate study with the recommendation of the faculty and an updated writing sample.

All students educated outside of the United States must submit proof of their English proficiency in order to be reviewed for admission regardless of language of instruction or native language. Students holding a bachelor's, master's, or PhD from a regionally accredited United States institution will have the TOEFL requirement waived upon receipt of their U.S. transcripts. DePaul University requires that all students earn at least 80 (ibt) with no section lower than 17 on the TOEFL exam to be considered proficient.
