The Department of Teacher Education develops Urban Professional Multicultural Educators by combining academic coursework with hands-on field experiences. Our curriculum is tailored to equip aspiring educators with the necessary skills. We encourage continuous self-assessment among teacher candidates regarding their teaching approaches. Beyond meeting Illinois licensure standards, and consistent with our goal of nurturing globally-minded educators, candidates will fulfill requirements for an International Baccalaureate Teaching and Learning Certificate. This IB certification for both Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma Programs (DP) equips graduates to teach at IB institutions worldwide. The IB Teaching and Learning credential broadens career prospects for educators while deepening their understanding of inquiry-based learning and reflective teaching practices.
