The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) specialization is a practice-focused curriculum that equips students for careers in professional mental health counseling. This program combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and hands-on clinical training grounded in contemporary research and industry standards to foster students' growth as mental health professionals. Graduates emerge with comprehensive counseling and mental health expertise, enabling them to work across diverse clinical environments including community health centers, hospital inpatient/outpatient programs, corporate wellness initiatives, rehabilitation facilities, child welfare organizations, residential programs, youth development services, higher education institutions, and independent practices. In these roles, our alumni are prepared to tackle personal, family, and societal issues that impact clients' wellbeing and functioning. DePaul University's Counseling program emphasizes multicultural awareness and social justice, cultivating culturally sensitive professionals who can advocate for clients and lead within their communities. Our graduates have established themselves as counseling professionals and change-makers working with diverse populations (including LGBTQ+ individuals, various racial/ethnic groups, and economically marginalized communities).
