The Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) concentration provides both theoretical foundations and hands-on training for careers in this specialized field. Students must complete 8 courses totaling 32 credit hours, including the three-part Dramaturgy I series (12 credits), at least three terms (12 credits) of Production Practice in The Theatre School's Playworks Series or a TYA Internship (working as assistant director, dramaturg, or assistant dramaturg), plus two advisor-approved electives (8 credits). The BFA in Theatre Arts offers our most adaptable degree path, exposing students to multiple theatrical disciplines. This program prepares graduates for diverse careers including directing, arts journalism, education outreach, literary management, arts administration, or entertainment law. Incoming Theatre Arts majors begin in the standard curriculum, fulfilling all core and elective requirements for the BFA degree.
