The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation offers aspiring animation professionals comprehensive training in animation principles and history, alongside intensive advanced study across diverse animation techniques and media. Animation BFA candidates can delve into an extensive curriculum covering traditional animation (including hand-drawn, stop motion, and hybrid forms), 3D animation and modeling, character development, storyboard creation, game design, motion graphics, visual effects animation, plus film and television studies in scriptwriting, post-production, audio, and direction. Our alumni have established careers as animation specialists, narrative artists, visual creators, character animators, game designers, CGI effects technicians, and motion graphics experts. The curriculum's emphasis on art history and studio practice provides essential aesthetic training for success in these fields. Throughout numerous animation production classes, students utilize cutting-edge industry tools including professional animation and effects programs, Cintiq workstations, 3D printing resources, stop motion facilities, fabrication labs, motion capture technology, precision camera systems, and advanced audio recording spaces. The program combines hands-on classroom experience with internship opportunities, while leveraging the School of Cinematic Arts' industry partnerships with top animation studios, production companies, and CDM's collaborations with Chicago's premier game development firms.
