The Theater Department aims to offer students an exceptional, rigorous, and comprehensive curriculum encompassing theater history, literature, theory, and practice—both in academic settings and through hands-on productions. The Theater Major program cultivates 21st-century artists and scholars who understand theater's interdisciplinary essence, its historical foundations, and modern-day complexities. Students pursuing this major complete at least ten courses spanning practical theater skills (including acting, directing, design, dance, stage management, technical production, and playwriting) and academic theater studies (covering performance history, criticism, and theory). Additionally, they must complete five production credits showcasing diverse theatrical involvement, proving consistent engagement in theater productions. One of these credits requires serving as a stage manager or assistant stage manager for a mainstage show.
Students must have high school equivalent to USA. A strong GPA in high school is one indicator that you will continue to do well in college.
Most successful applicants score above 100 on the TOEFL exam or above 7 on IELTS.
