The Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering provides a Master of Science program in Mechanical Engineering, one of Cornell University Graduate School's ninety-four major disciplines. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to craft customized programs with faculty from across the university. Ranked among America's top ten Mechanical Engineering departments, we boast 40 faculty members engaged in varied research pursuits. Situated in New York's scenic Finger Lakes region, Cornell attracts a global student body. Our alumni frequently secure prestigious roles in academia, research, industry, and leadership. The two-year M.S. curriculum blends rigorous coursework with intensive research. Students collaborate with faculty advisors to design personalized study plans that include fundamental mechanical engineering concepts and specialized electives. Each candidate conducts significant research under faculty supervision, culminating in a thesis defense before an academic committee. Research topics are selected jointly with advisors, leveraging Cornell's collaborative environment and world-class facilities. The Mechanical Engineering program maintains active research initiatives across numerous specialties.
Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree in engineering or the physical sciences.
