Cornell University provides a comprehensive Master of Public Health (MPH) Program aimed at cultivating future leaders dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of individuals, animals, and our global environment. The MPH curriculum at Cornell equips students with essential competencies in vital public health domains. Unlike expansive undergraduate programs, this professional graduate program fosters a collaborative learning environment where students and faculty challenge one another to excel—both in core public health disciplines and professional development areas like leadership, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills. With a tight-knit community of learners and faculty, the program leverages expertise from Cornell's diverse academic resources and global partnerships. Currently, the program features two specialized concentrations taught through interdisciplinary collaboration between scholars and professionals:
Infectious Disease Epidemiology This concentration prepares graduates to monitor, prevent, detect, and combat infectious disease outbreaks, addressing viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic threats affecting human and animal populations. The curriculum covers disease surveillance methods, public health communication strategies, and coordinated response leadership, with specialized training in outbreak investigation techniques and vector-borne disease management.
Food Systems for Health Students explore systemic approaches to developing policies and interventions that promote secure, sustainable food systems—from agricultural production to consumption. The program provides training in toxicology, food safety protocols, nutrition science, and water security, teaching students to evaluate community needs, design One Health initiatives, and implement effective monitoring systems to protect public health.
