Graduate study options cover all specialization areas represented by over one hundred faculty members across multiple disciplines. These professors come from fourteen departments spanning the College of Engineering, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management. Students can further broaden their education through minor subject selections. The Applied Mathematics program welcomes graduate students from diverse academic backgrounds with strong mathematical foundations, though it primarily admits candidates pursuing a Ph.D. degree. The program typically has around forty students and takes four to five years to finish.
The applied mathematics graduate curriculum builds upon core pure mathematics principles, covering essential algebra and analysis concepts. It combines applied mathematical techniques with exploration of scientific fields where mathematics plays a crucial role. With its interdisciplinary faculty, the program offers guidance across numerous mathematical science domains. Students can pursue customized or cross-disciplinary study plans, including various biomathematics opportunities.
Applicants must have an undergraduate background that contains a substantial mathematical component.
