The DEA program provides a versatile, integrated undergraduate curriculum centered around students' needs. After completing a shared core of fundamental courses, learners can specialize in a chosen field by selecting from a wide array of electives across Human Ecology and Cornell's offerings to align with their personal aspirations. Options include pursuing a minor, undertaking an honors thesis, or engaging in off-campus study opportunities. Participants will cultivate specialized knowledge in their selected domain while collaborating with peers and professors from complementary disciplines through joint studios and cross-disciplinary project groups. By partnering with faculty from diverse academic backgrounds, students merge theoretical learning, practical fieldwork, and applied research to address real-world challenges. Program highlights feature studio-based instruction in creative methodologies and innovation, research-focused training for human-centric design principles, and foundational university courses that broaden intellectual perspectives to enhance design processes, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
Students completing their high school during the 2021-22 academic year or if they've graduated from high school but have earned fewer than 12 credits at a college or university are eligible for admission as first year students.
TOEFL - Score of 100 and above (Internet-based exam); 70 and above on the PTE Academic; IELTS - Score of 7.5.
