Since Cornell's establishment, communication in various forms has been fundamental to its social sciences. The Communication Department teaches students to comprehend audiences, craft messages, and engage with both individuals and technologies. By examining science, media, and technology, you'll acquire crucial abilities for navigating today's dynamic communication environment. Communication is an interactive process involving people, designed to impact others. It occurs within genuine social settings: communities, organizations, teams, nations, and societies. Information technologies, themselves creations of the social realm, facilitate this process. As a Communication student, you'll develop strong theoretical foundations and rigorous social science methodologies, while participating in practical, evidence-based research on contemporary societal challenges. Cornell's communication majors explore how media, science, and technology intersect with communication, building competencies for thriving in sophisticated professional settings. The program provides both broad exposure to the discipline and specialized knowledge in selected concentration areas.
