As a music major, you'll advance your musical studies by combining performance, history, theory, and composition. Whether preparing for graduate studies, professional music careers, or pursuing a broader musical education, you can explore courses ranging from medieval chant to hip-hop, classical European works to Latin American and African traditions, and electroacoustic compositions to global musical systems. Performance opportunities include private lessons in piano, violin, voice, percussion, and other instruments, along with participation in our varied ensemble groups. Cornell's music program equips students with practical and theoretical skills applicable across musical traditions, fosters critical and open-minded listening for analysis and collaboration, and develops creative communication abilities to navigate diverse social, cultural, and artistic contexts.
