Students have the option to earn either a Bachelor of Arts in Information Science from the College of Arts & Sciences (BA-IS) or a Bachelor of Science in Information Science from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) (BS-IS). These two degree paths share many similarities, with the key differences lying in their respective college-level requirements. The BA in Information Science (IS) focuses on examining information system design and application within societal frameworks. This discipline explores how digital information is generated, structured, managed, implemented, and examined. Information Science emphasizes technological systems and their practical applications, employing diverse interdisciplinary methods.
This program prepares students to interpret global trends through data analysis. Graduates will qualify for careers demanding data analytics and statistical evaluation coupled with communication skills across business, academic, and government sectors. For instance, a Data Journalist identifies real-world issues, gathers and processes relevant data, then clearly communicates findings and their significance. Comparable roles include: data scientist, statistician, data engineer, and machine learning specialist
