Earning an Associate in Arts in Music degree equips students to audition for performances, analyze music critically, and organize musical productions. To obtain this degree, students must complete at least 60 units of coursework, fulfilling both major and general education requirements while maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA. All major courses require a grade of C or higher.
Students are encouraged to finish Contra Costa College's general education requirements before enrolling in MUSIC-109 (Applied Music: Individual Instruction). As part of their arts/humanities and social sciences curriculum, music majors should take MUSIC-108 (History & Appreciation of Western Music) and MUSIC-114 (Pop, Rock and Jazz: Their Cultural Origins).
