The discipline of Environmental Health Science now relies heavily on extensive and intricate datasets. Proficiency in handling, evaluating, and interpreting environmental health data has grown into a sought-after skillset, yet one rarely covered in traditional education. The Department of Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) provides a Master of Science (MS) program focused on Environmental Health Data Science. This program trains students in environmental health while equipping them with analytical techniques for managing complex datasets, such as geospatial modeling, advanced statistical methods, and data organization. Beyond intensive coursework, students develop hands-on expertise through a thesis project. This research component allows them to tackle real-world environmental health challenges by applying their data skills.
Successful applicants come from a wide range of backgrounds, but each applicant should demonstrate interest in Environmental Health Sciences. Applicants may have an undergraduate degree in any field, but should have academic coursework in college mathematics, including at least a year of calculus, and coursework, undergraduate research, or post-graduate experience in life sciences, for example biology, chemistry, or physics.
