The M.S. and M.A. programs offer specialized courses, enhanced by the Li Center for Global Journalism and global partnerships, equipping students to report knowledgeably and securely in today's intricate world. Journalism School students join a genuinely international cohort - approximately 30% of enrollees hail from outside the United States. Recent cohorts have welcomed students from diverse nations including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, India, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iceland, Iran, Israel, Macedonia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, U.K., Zimbabwe, and numerous others. This rich cultural mix enhances both classroom and extracurricular learning. For instance, ethics discussions might begin with U.S. conflict-of-interest cases before exploring reporting challenges in Mexico, Pakistan, or other high-risk journalism environments. The M.S. curriculum additionally addresses cross-border themes like migration, human rights, world religions, national security, and international media developments.
