The department provides a comprehensive full-time curriculum designed to equip students for academic careers in research and teaching, as well as professional roles in museums and archaeological fieldwork. PhD candidates in Anthropology can focus on socio-cultural anthropology or archaeology, while biological anthropology specialization is available through the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology. The graduate faculty incorporates professors from Barnard College's Anthropology Department, with additional resources from a collaborative initiative with the American Museum of Natural History and strong connections to the Columbia Center for Archaeology. The program further benefits from partnerships with Teachers College, Columbia's Regional Institutes, the School of International and Public Affairs, and various New York museums, all contributing to a robust educational experience at Columbia.
Applicant must have the equivalent of the U.S. baccalaureate degree with a superior examination record and can understand rapid idiomatic English and can speak, write and read English with a high degree of facility are eligible for admission.
English Language Requirement
Applicant must have TOEFL score of 600 on paper-and-pencil test, 100 on the internet-based test and IELTS score of 7.5
