The Engineering Mechanics Program offers a robust analytical and experimental foundation in applied mechanics for students aiming to pursue graduate studies and research careers. It focuses on the mechanics of civil engineering structures and materials, while also incorporating cutting-edge advancements such as nanomechanics and biomechanics. Undergraduate students have numerous research opportunities available during the semester or summer sessions. Admission to the program requires a B grade point average or higher, with sustained performance throughout the program.
Objectives
In designing and continuously refining our program to fulfill the department's mission, we aim to accomplish the following goals:
To establish a solid grounding in fundamental mathematics, science, and engineering principles that form the basis of all technological progress, ensuring our graduates can readily adapt to evolving professional technologies.
To deliver a comprehensive and fundamental technical education for graduates pursuing specialized master's degrees, while also preparing those entering the workforce with bachelor's degrees to develop expertise through practical experience.
To offer diverse program options that support students with varying technical goals, as well as those leveraging their technical background for alternative career paths.
Applicants must present evidence that they are prepared for college work in the humanities, mathematics, social sciences, foreign languages and natural sciences. Accordingly, the College strongly recommends the following preparation: Four years of English literature and composition
The vast majority of successful applicants to the College have taken five academic courses per term for all four years of secondary/high school. Student must have 650 or higher on either the Critical Reasoning or Writing sections of the SAT, 700 or higher on the Evidence Based Reading and Writing section of the redesigned SAT and 29 or higher on the English or Reading sections of the ACT
English Language Requirement
Applicant must have minimum score of 600 (paper-based test) or 100 (Internet-based test) and minimum IELTS score of 7.0
