The Barnard Economics Department's core mission is to offer undergraduate liberal arts students a comprehensive, challenging curriculum encompassing both theoretical and applied economics. To fulfill this goal, our program:
Delivers solid foundations in neoclassical economic principles, contemporary statistical techniques, and their practical uses across standard economic disciplines,
Integrates this technical training within a wider framework of economic thought, particularly emphasizing philosophical, historical, and institutional perspectives that connect economics with other social sciences and humanities,
Examines and contrasts diverse methodological viewpoints and forms of evidence for analyzing economic issues, informing policy discussions, and understanding the wider societal impacts of economic theories.
