The Earth and environmental sciences undergraduate program explores our planet's natural systems and examines humanity's impact on them. Our curriculum equips students with comprehensive knowledge of Earth's complex systems, fostering innovative thinking about environmental processes and solutions to interdisciplinary challenges. This broad foundation serves students pursuing careers in law, business, government, education, media, and other fields, while also offering specialized preparation for graduate studies in Earth sciences. The flexible program structure allows customization based on individual career aspirations.
Through partnerships with renowned institutions like Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, AMNH, NASA's GISS, Columbia's Earth Institute, and engineering departments, students gain access to cutting-edge research opportunities. Lamont and GISS offer summer jobs, research positions, and educational programs. We strongly advise majors to engage in research projects by their third year.
