The Addiction Counseling in Psychology Master's program at Colorado State University's Department of Psychology equips students with essential treatment skills for addiction counseling. Graduates earn a Master's in Addiction Counseling in Psychology and qualify to take the licensing exam to become Licensed Addiction Counselors. The first year's coursework fulfills all Colorado state licensure education requirements. While some students fulfill their practice hours during internships, most complete remaining licensure hours post-graduation, supplementing hours earned during their internship year.
This two-year program includes one year of on-campus coursework and one year of off-campus addiction counseling internship, with internship hours applying toward licensure. The first year's curriculum meets all Colorado state instructional requirements for licensure. As a Plan C Master's Program, it doesn't require a research thesis; instead, students demonstrate competency through successful internship completion and passing a comprehensive exam.
