The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology boasts a distinguished faculty known for outstanding teaching and globally recognized research achievements in biochemistry, molecular biology, cellular biology, and structural biology. Their work receives among the highest levels of external funding per faculty member within the College of Natural Sciences.
The BMB department's Master's programs deliver comprehensive training in cellular biochemistry, gene regulation, bioinformatics, molecular genetics, and biophysics. Students learn from faculty actively engaged in pioneering biochemistry research. These programs equip graduates for diverse career paths in academia, government agencies, biotech firms, medical fields, or pharmaceutical companies, while also enhancing prospects for advanced professional or graduate studies. The one-year Plan B M.S. program focuses on fundamental and emerging biochemical principles through coursework (30 credits) culminating in a final project. The Plan A M.S. program shares the same core curriculum but adds hands-on laboratory research under BMB faculty supervision and requires a Master's thesis.
