Brass musicians at Colorado State University can perform in premier regional groups such as two orchestras, three concert bands, two jazz bands, three jazz combos, and an elite marching band. Chamber music options abound, featuring brass choirs, trumpet groups, horn ensembles, and various small brass configurations. These groups have performed at prestigious events like the Rocky Mountain Trumpet Festival, Fort Collins seasonal celebrations, Denver Nuggets games at Pepsi Center, and CSU's national concert tours. Unlike some programs where graduate students provide instruction, CSU brass players receive intensive training directly from faculty specialists on their instruments. The instrumental studios foster a supportive yet challenging atmosphere that promotes artistic advancement. Beyond individual lessons, collaborative studio classes enable students to learn from multiple professors, ensuring both specialized and broad musical training. Each semester brings renowned guest brass artists to campus, connecting students with industry leaders for a rich educational experience. This unique setting provides exceptional opportunities for personal growth, helping students evolve into versatile musicians, outstanding performers, and effective educators.

Qualification Requirements

Bachelor's degree must be completed by the start of your graduate program.

U.S. degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution to qualify for CSU graduate admission (certificate or degree program).

Contact your department to find out if unofficial transcripts are accepted. If your department accepts unofficial transcripts, you may be admitted and registered in your first semester of courses with an unofficial transcript. Official transcripts must be submitted, prior to or during your first semester, before you can register for your second semester of graduate work. Failure to meet this condition will result in your dismissal from the Graduate School.

You will need unofficial transcripts of all collegiate work completed post-high school. Separate transcripts are required for study abroad if the courses, grades, and credits are not recorded on the transcript of the university that sponsored the study abroad.

Training course transcripts from branches of the U.S. Military that show credit received with neither grades nor degrees awarded are exempt from the transcript requirements. You must upload the front and back of transcripts and include any grading scale provided.
