This program provides students with comprehensive training in conducting various ensembles to prepare them for professional careers. Conducting techniques are explored through gesture and movement, score analysis and ear training, as well as rehearsal methods and strategies. Band conducting students engage in advanced repertoire studies and wind/percussion techniques, complemented by rigorous theoretical coursework. Orchestral conducting students focus on advanced repertoire and orchestral techniques, supported by in-depth theoretical studies.
Graduate programs culminate in a Master of Music (M.M.), equipping students with the expertise to excel as music educators, therapists, performers, and conductors. Our dynamic learning community nurtures creativity and personal development while maintaining excellence in teaching, research, and performance. Students benefit from small class sizes, instruction by accomplished faculty, and personalized academic guidance. With more than 100 annual performances, the department offers abundant performance opportunities and serves as a prominent artistic presence on campus.
