The Bachelor of Music with a Performance Concentration is a specialized degree designed to equip students for professional careers in music as performers, educators, and entrepreneurs, while also laying the groundwork for advanced graduate studies. The program offers comprehensive training in music theory, history, and performance, featuring numerous performance opportunities through ensemble participation and solo recitals.
Program Learning Objectives
Demonstrate proficiency in performing diverse musical styles and periods while showcasing essential performance skills in evaluated settings. These competencies encompass technique, musicality, tone quality, articulation, stylistic interpretation, sight-reading, rhythmic precision, and artistic expression.
Develop piano proficiency.
Cultivate the ability to compose or arrange original musical works.
Grasp fundamental musical concepts, including form, structure, and compositional techniques.
Acquire knowledge of music history and repertoire, including significant composers and works within the specialization, while exploring musical traditions beyond the primary cultural focus.
Students will additionally study musical literature across all eras through both aural training and score analysis. Performance abilities are formally assessed during the sophomore year and, when applicable, in a culminating recital.
