The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art with an Art Education Concentration follows the artist-teacher model, enabling students to cultivate robust studio skills while completing coursework for K-12 art instruction. This program immerses students in philosophical inquiry, modern teaching methodologies, and arts-based research to equip them for the challenges of K-12 art education. Through student teaching, fieldwork, and service learning, participants gain practical experience to launch careers as art educators.
Program Objectives
Graduates will exhibit:
Core understanding and technical command of artistic media and processes for meaningful artistic expression.
Capacity to articulate insights about their own artwork and others' creations, addressing both conceptual content and visual composition.
Awareness of contemporary art practices and enthusiasm for engaging with current exhibitions at local, regional, and national levels.
Art Education concentrators will additionally develop the ability to:
Incorporate literacy, numeracy, and skill-building approaches while implementing tailored accommodations in student art projects.
Skillfully assess, document, and refine teaching strategies based on student learning outcomes.
Meet all competency requirements outlined in the Colorado Teacher Quality Standards.
