Philosophy represents humanity's earliest method of organized academic investigation. This discipline examines fundamental concepts in ethics, law, beauty, spirituality, and existence, helping us gain knowledge and formulate guidelines for behavior. Philosophical thinkers aim to define evidentiary benchmarks, devise logical approaches to settle disputes, determine foundations for equitable societies, and formulate methods for assessing theories and reasoning.
Engaging with philosophy expands and deepens liberal arts education while strengthening analytical skills applicable across numerous domains. The program of study promotes a comprehensive liberal arts foundation, incorporating foreign language coursework, while preparing students for advanced academic pursuits and philosophy teaching positions. Philosophy's wide-ranging connections to other disciplines enables students to pursue objectives like specialized training in legal, medical, business, or religious fields. Philosophy majors can choose from three focus areas: Comprehensive Philosophy, World Philosophies and Belief Systems, and Philosophy in Relation to Science and Technology. Many philosophy students opt to pursue dual majors, as these specialized tracks integrate seamlessly with other academic programs at CSU.
