As the earliest systematic academic discipline, philosophy explores fundamental concepts in ethics, law, beauty, spirituality, and existence. This field aims to define evidentiary standards, offer logical approaches to resolving disputes, outline frameworks for equitable societies, and develop methods for assessing theories and reasoning.
Philosophical studies expand and deepen liberal arts education while strengthening analytical skills applicable across disciplines. The program promotes a comprehensive liberal arts foundation, incorporating foreign language studies, while preparing students for advanced academic work and philosophical instruction. Philosophy's interdisciplinary nature allows students to pursue diverse career paths including law, healthcare, commerce, or religious studies. Philosophy majors can specialize in three tracks: General Philosophy, Global Philosophies and Religions, or Philosophy, Science and Technology. Many students pair philosophy with another major, as these concentrations integrate seamlessly with other programs at CSU.
