The M.A./Ph.D. combined program in anthropology caters to students aiming to conduct advanced doctoral research in Historical Archaeology or Historical Anthropology without having earned a master's degree in the field.

This program's structure focuses on developing comprehensive expertise and career-ready competencies within the discipline. Our methodology prepares graduates to excel in academic teaching roles and comparable professional opportunities.

For the M.A. portion, candidates must fulfill 30 credit hours of study along with a Paper and Presentation component. This involves producing a journal-article-length paper presented to the Anthropology Department, serving as the master's thesis equivalent.

The Ph.D. completion requires 36 more credit hours of coursework plus a dissertation. Prior to dissertation work, students must develop and defend a grant proposal for their research project before departmental faculty, tailored to a specific funding organization.
