Concentrations represent specialized academic tracks that allow students to deepen their knowledge through targeted coursework, hands-on learning, or independent research in specific disciplines beyond core requirements. Students enroll in concentration courses through the standard registration process without receiving priority access.
Therefore, students should carefully plan their course selections and prioritize concentration requirements during registration to ensure timely completion.
A maximum of two concentrations may be pursued, with each requiring separate fulfillment - no single course or experience can satisfy multiple concentration requirements simultaneously.
Exceptions exist where: one course may fulfill both the experiential learning requirement and a Group C concentration option; one course may satisfy both the upper-level writing requirement and a concentration requirement; and third-year students may apply the P/F grading option to concentration-required courses.
All concentrations mandate completion of: (1) at least two foundational courses, (2) three or more approved courses, and (3) either an independent research project or experiential course (see specific requirements in each concentration's drop-down menu).
DegreeWorks serves as a personalized planning tool that syncs with the online course catalog, offering real-time tracking of completed, current, and planned coursework while helping assess fulfillment of concentration requirements. Access it through MyBanner under Student Records.
The What-If feature in DegreeWorks enables students to simulate how adding a concentration would affect their academic progress, displaying required courses, completed requirements, and remaining coursework for any potential concentration.
