Concentrations represent specialized academic tracks that allow students to deepen their knowledge through targeted coursework, hands-on learning, or independent research in specific disciplines beyond core requirements. Students enrolling in concentrations follow standard registration procedures without receiving preferential course access.
Therefore, students should carefully plan their course selections early and prioritize concentration-related classes during registration.
A maximum of two concentrations is permitted, with each requiring separate completion - no single course or experience can fulfill requirements for multiple concentrations simultaneously.
Certain courses may satisfy multiple requirements: one course can count toward both the Law School's experiential learning requirement and a concentration's Group C option, while another may fulfill both upper-level writing and concentration requirements.
Third-year students may apply the pass/fail grading option to courses meeting concentration requirements.
All concentrations mandate: (1) two or more foundational courses, (2) three or more approved courses, and (3) either an independent research project or experiential course - detailed requirements are available in each concentration's drop-down menu.
DegreeWorks serves as a personalized planning tool that syncs with the online course catalog, offering real-time tracking of completed, current, and planned coursework to help students verify concentration requirement fulfillment. Access DegreeWorks through your MyBanner account under Student Records.
The What-If feature in DegreeWorks enables students to simulate how adding a concentration would affect their academic progress, displaying required courses, completed requirements, and remaining coursework for any selected concentration.
