This program caters to those pursuing careers in school psychology. To satisfy Virginia's certification standards for school psychologists, participants must finish a 70-hour preparatory program culminating in an educational specialist degree. Admission priority goes to candidates committed to full graduate studies.
Three core focus areas:
Instruction in fundamental psychological theories and educational philosophy,
Practical training in consultation, evaluation, and intervention techniques,
Skill implementation in educational environments.
School psychology continues to develop as a profession, with growing need for practitioners. Beyond evaluations, modern school psychologists provide counseling, collaborate with educators and families, deliver professional development, and engage in research.
The three-year curriculum begins with a Master of Education (MEd) phase, followed by completion of the Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) credential required for school psychologist certification.
