The Anthropology Ph.D. program prepares students for advanced original research leading to a doctoral degree, with specializations available in Historical Archaeology or Historical Anthropology.

Degree requirements consist of 36 credit hours of coursework plus a completed dissertation. Students must also fulfill the Paper and Presentation component, producing a journal-ready paper presented to faculty. Prior to dissertation research, candidates must develop and defend a funding proposal for their doctoral project before departmental faculty, tailored to a specific grant organization.
