Undergraduates at William & Mary can combine an Arts & Sciences primary major with a secondary education second major through our dual-degree program. Graduates emerge fully prepared to begin their teaching careers immediately.
Hands-on classroom training forms a vital part of the School of Education's teacher preparation curriculum. Aspiring educators gain diverse experience across multiple public school environments, working with varied student populations. This practical training connects theoretical knowledge from coursework with real-world teaching applications during their training and future careers.
During autumn, secondary education students complete at least 60 hours of fieldwork, honing teaching techniques, engaging with pupils, analyzing their experiences, and understanding school systems. This preparation leads to their final teaching practicum. The intensive 15-week spring student teaching placement serves as the cornerstone of our candidates' professional growth as educators.
