The Department of Psychological Sciences stands as one of William & Mary's most prominent undergraduate programs, with roughly 150 majors and 35 minors completing their degrees annually. Students explore the scientific study of mental processes and behavior through courses that blend theoretical foundations, research techniques, and practical applications. The curriculum bridges natural and social sciences, addressing subjects like social psychology, developmental studies, cognitive functions, mental disorders, memory systems, personality theory, biological psychology, statistical analysis, and research methodologies. William & Mary's approach treats psychology as both a natural and social science in its conceptual framework, fundamental theories, and investigative approaches.
With approximately 150 psychology majors graduating yearly, our department maintains one of the college's most robust undergraduate programs. We additionally provide a Master of Science degree and contribute to the undergraduate Neuroscience curriculum. By incorporating hands-on research experiences, students across all academic levels collaborate with faculty members on investigations spanning psychology's diverse subfields.
