Wherever people exist, music follows - spanning continents and centuries. At W&M, you'll discover how to both make music and understand its role in human culture.
The Music Department provides a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. We approach musical education through its interconnected fields:
Performance studies allow you to explore diverse musical styles and presentation methods before live audiences.
Our program draws students from all backgrounds. Whether you're an aspiring music scholar pursuing a major/minor, an independent researcher, or simply passionate about musical performance and appreciation, you'll find your place here.
Music enhances life and should be accessible to all. No major/minor status is needed for music lessons, ensemble participation, or introductory courses. Our concerts welcome everyone - whether performing or enjoying from the audience.
W&M's music program doesn't require auditions for admission. However, we recommend applicants supplement their Common Application with an Arts Submission, including a music resume and statement outlining your goals for participating in our classes, private lessons, and ensembles.
