The School of Education provides undergraduate and graduate programs designed to train aspiring teachers, counselors, school psychologists, and educational leaders at both K-12 and higher education levels. Hands-on fieldwork forms an essential part of all W&M degree programs, allowing students to gain real-world experience and make a difference in students' lives, families, and communities before graduation. W&M faculty, students, alumni, and partners continuously advance educational research in theory, practice, and policy—translating findings into practical applications for classrooms and clinical settings.
Those pursuing a primary Arts & Sciences major can also add Elementary Education with an ESL concentration as a secondary major.
BAEd students may apply no more than 60 credits from ELEM and EDUC courses toward the 120-credit graduation requirement, with at least 60 credits from Arts & Sciences disciplines.
Graduation eligibility requires good academic standing, fulfillment of general education and proficiency requirements, completion of at least 60 Arts and Sciences credits, satisfaction of all School of Education program requirements, and accumulation of 120 total academic credits.
