CSN's Political Science program focuses on introducing students to the foundations and operations of both the U.S. and Nevada governments. The curriculum also covers international relations dynamics and America's position in global affairs. Studying Political Science equips students for various career paths, particularly in government, diplomacy, legal fields, political arenas, and education.
Student Learning Objectives
Gain comprehensive knowledge of the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Nevada Constitution, including understanding government branches, America's political values, party systems, interest groups, elections, and the evolution of civil rights.
Assess and contrast political systems across different nations, examining governmental structures, political cultures, ethnic/religious influences, and competing political-economic ideologies.
Investigate different international relations theories, studying potential causes of conflicts, interregional relationships, global actors' roles, and America's worldwide political influence.
Study foundational political theories and philosophies, tracing their impact on the U.S. Constitution's formation and subsequent constitutional amendments.
