Music composition is a specialized craft honed through practical training, guidance from experienced mentors, and real-world practice, developed through partnerships with professional artists, skilled ensembles, and established composers.
The Bachelor of Music program offers a flexible yet challenging curriculum tailored to diverse student backgrounds and aspirations. Alongside individual composition instruction, students participate in group discussions, masterclasses, and practical workshops while receiving in-depth education in Harmony, Musicianship, Orchestration, and Digital Music technologies.
Professional growth forms a core component of the program, with all composition students having access to exceptional performance opportunities and career-building resources at Cleveland State. The faculty consists of internationally acclaimed composers, including award-winning professors Dr. Rindfleisch and Dr. DAlessio, whose published works receive global performances. Their active professional engagements enrich the program by connecting students with valuable mentors and career pathways in the field.
